Asian American Media Startup Launching “At The Moment” Podcast
NEW YORK -- Asian American news media startup AZI Media is launching “At The Moment” podcast, bringing original storytelling with historical and cultural context for the Asian American community. The podcast will be launched on all audio streaming platforms on Jan. 19, 2021.
At The Moment is a bi-weekly explainer news podcast focusing on analyzing current news that affects the Asian American diasporic community. The goal of the podcast is to give space for the listeners to learn about the intricacies of Asian America and how solidarity looks like with other marginalized communities through discussing social issues.
“We found it extremely important for the time-being to create a podcast space that is dedicated for the ever-growing, complex and intersectional Asian American communities,” said Cynthia Liu, Co-founder of AZI Media and an audio producer of At The Moment Podcast. “We designed this podcast to be diverse and inclusive, and we hope that all Asian Americans feel safe in this space.”
The hosts, Sylvia Peng and Janrey Serapio, will lead listeners through challenging topics, including Black-Asian solidarity movements, the rise of hip-hop in Asian America, and how the caste system plays into the lives of South Asian Americans today, and more. The best friend duo worked in a student working group to establish an Asian American Studies program during their time at Vassar College.
“We care about our Asian American communities deeply,” said Peng and Serapio. “We want to give levity to some of the most serious Asian American and social justice issues by discussing them like our audience would, in hopes of stirring more nuanced conversations within our circles.”
AZI Media will host a virtual Zoom podcast launch party along with prominent Asian Americans within the media space, including the founder of the Asian Podcast Network Jerry Won on Jan. 22. 2021. For more information on the virtual launch party, follow AZI Media on Instagram and Facebook.
